Clinical Research

The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders (CCBD) is nationally recognized for its clinical research excellence in the understanding and treatment of pediatric cancer and blood disorders.  Some of the clinical research highlights include:

  • One of the most active members of the Children's Oncology Group (C.O.G.) which develops national treatment protocols for children with cancer.
  • One of the only 20 centers nationally approved by the C.O.G. to have access to Phase 1 experimental cancer treatments years before such treatments are widely accessible.
  • Site of Dallas' first umbilical cord transplant and Texas' first bone marrow transplant for a child with sickle cell disease.
  • Principle site of the Southwestern Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center, one of only ten (10) centers nationally to be supported by a multi-million dollar grant from the National Institutes of Health.
  • One of only 16 institutional participants in a new hemostasis-transfusion national clinical trials network.
