The division of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition offers comprehensive services for the diagnosis and treatment of infants, children and adolescents with gastrointestinal, pancreatic and hepatic disorders.  Clinical services are provided daily at Children’s Medical Center Dallas on an inpatient and outpatient basis, as well as at a satellite clinic in Plano two days per week.

Specific programs have been designed and implemented for the treatment of multiple disorders including:

  • Constipation and encopresis
  • Vomiting and gastroesophageal reflux disease
  • Liver disease and transplantation
  • Short bowel syndrome and intestinal failure
  • Inflammatory bowel disease
  • Pancreatic and biliary tract disease
  • Celiac disease
  • Gastrointestinal vascular anomalies and chronic bleeding
  • Chronic recurrent abdominal pain
  • Feeding, growth, and nutrition
  • Irritable bowel syndrome
  • Chronic Diarrhea

In addition, a fully equipped GI lab is available to provide:

  • Endoscopy and biopsy
  • Colonoscopy and biopsy
  • Capsule Endoscopy
  • Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)
  • Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy (PEG) placement
  • 24 hour esophageal pH and Impedance monitoring
  • Lactose and Urea breath testing
  • Liver biopsy
  • Rectal suction biopsy
  • Polypectomy
  • Esophageal dilatation
  • Band ligation and sclerotherapy of esophageal varices
  • Endoscopic management of GI bleeding
  • Coin and foreign body removal
