The division of Pediatric Endocrinology at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center is committed to improving the health of infants, children, and adolescents by providing quality clinical services, furthering the understanding of endocrinologic disease through original research, and participating in the education of physicians at all levels of training.

Our clinical practice is based at Children's Medical Center of Dallas, where we provide all endocrinology services.  Our division has a full service outpatient facility which offers state of the art diagnosis, treatment, and management of endocrine disorders.  Our center serves a diverse population of children ranging from birth to 18 years of age residing in North Central Texas and surrounding areas. We also have a presence at Children's Medical Center Legacy, which is our new hospital facility serving the counties of far North Central Texas.  Each year, we diagnose and treat 250-275 new diabetic patients and have approximately 12,000-13,000 outpatient clinic visits for both diabetes and endocrinologic conditions.

There are currently 11 full time and 3 part time faculty members with a variety of specific interests including clinical and translational research as well as basic science along with 6 fellows, 2 advance practice nurses, 15 nurses and 3 dieticians.  Additional clinical support is provided by a research coordinator, 6 medical assistants, and 2 social workers.

Research interest in the division is varied and includes single and multi-center projects.  Currently 4 pediatric endocrinology faculty members are actively involved in basic science research on the main South or on the North campus in areas that include the neuroendocrine regulation of energy balance, biochemical basis of cortisone reductase deficiency, VLGR1 studies, and signaling pathways relevant to growth plate chondrocyte differentiation.  There are also several clinical research ventures being undertaken within the division and as a part of multi-center projects.

The faculty in pediatric endocrinology is committed to physician education and training and administers a post-doctoral fellowship program accepting two fellows per year.  Pediatric residents and medical students are actively involved in the care of hospitalized patients with diabetes and endocrinologic diseases.  A month-long elective outpatient rotation is offered also, as well as the opportunity to spend time as medical staff at a summer residential diabetes camp.
