Clinical Objectives

1.  Clinical hours have changed to eight (8) hour shifts so that two (2) fellows will be on either 10:00-18:00 or 18:00-02:00, Sunday through Saturday, except Wednesday (Fellowship Conference Day).  Wednesday shifts are single fellow coverage from 14:00-24:00.

2.  Active participant in the evaluation and management of all critically ill patients

  • CPR
  • Trauma
  • Biotel

3.  Supervise residents in the evaluation, management and disposition of patients including:

  • Procedures
  • Abuse Evaluations
  • Trauma
  • Orthopedics
  • Common Medical Conditions

4.  Maintain the ethics and moral code as determined by UTSWMC and CMC.

5.  Directly evaluate and manage patient care as dictated by patient volume.

6.  Work in conjunction with the PEM Attending.

7.  Concentrate education experience to achieve expertise in the practice of Pediatric Emergency Medicine.

Evaluations

1.  Of rotation and faculty each ER rotation

2.  Quarterly reviews with Fellowship Director

3.  Quarterly reviews with research mentor

4.  Of rotation and faculty each outside rotation/elective

Research

1.  One project, as primarily investigator, by completion of Fellowship.

  • Manuscript prepared and submitted to peer review journal

2.  Contributing investigator on additional project

  • Mentoring by senior fellow

3.  Case report within first two years.

4.  Emeri-quiz presentation each year.

5.  Regular attendance/participation at Research Forum held monthly.

6.  Enrollment of pre-determined number of patients in projects underway in ER-both your own and other fellows projects.

7.  Review and Present Specific Chapters from textbook, Designing Clinical Research by Stephen B. Hulley, Steven R. Cummings, Warren S. Browner, Deborah Grady, Norman Hearst, and Thomas B. Newman, published by Lippincott, Williams & Wilkins.
