Third-year medical students:

Third-year medical students at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center spend 5 days in the Newborn Nursery (NBN) at Parkland Memorial Hospital.  Please arrive in the 4th floor Newborn Nursery promptly by 09:15 on the first day.  A faculty member and/or pediatric nurse practitioner will orient you to the newborn physical exam and the NBN.

The orientation booklet for this rotation will be discussed with you during the first morning.

Fourth-year medical students:

Fourth-year students may elect to spend time in the  Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (contact William Engle, M.D.)or the Newborn Nursery (contact Elizabeth Stehel, M.D.)  This elective can be structured in various ways, depending on the needs of the student.  For further information, please contact the Student Academic office for course details, or one of the faculty members listed above.

The goals and evaluation for this rotation will be discussed with you during your orientation.
