The goals for pediatric residents rotating on the pediatric cardiology inpatient service are the following:

  • To develop competency in managing patients with:

    • congestive heart failure
    • cyanotic heart disease
    • Kawasaki's disease
    • cardiac arrrhythmias

  • The resident should be able to recognize from the ECG the rhythm and signs of hypertrophy.

  • The resident should be able to interpret a chest x-ray and recognize cardiomegaly, increased or decreased pulmonary vascular markings and aortic arch location.

  • The house officer should be able to interpret the hemodynamic findings on a cardiac catheterization report.
