Overview
In most cases tumor progression is predicated on vascular development. This symposium will examine vasculature at levels from the microscope to the clinic, from molecular targets to pathophysiology, and from preclinical analysis to clinical trials. UT Southwestern and the State of Texas are committed to cancer research and effective imaging. A Comprehensive Cancer Center is a high priority, and recently the new Advanced Imaging Research Center has been established. During 2006/2007 new 3 Tesla and 7 Tesla clinical MRI and PET/CT have been commissioned. Pre-clinical research is supported by bioluminescent and fluorescent optical imaging and MRI. New 7 T and 9.4 T MRI systems have been ordered. A new micro PET/CT, SPECT/CT and 3D fluorescence /bioluminescence imager will enhance the armamentarium within the next year.
Educational Objectives
1) Describe the importance of vasculature in tumor development
2) Discuss effective means of assaying vascular development and targeting non-invasively
3) Discuss insights into novel vascular-targeting therapies from concept to clinical translation
