| POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCHERS (2)
The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center is seeking 2 Postdoctoral Fellows to study the role of vascular dysfunction in the pathogenesis of muscular dystrophy (PNAS 95:15090, 1998:97:13818, 2000). These individuals will be responsible for developing and performing experiments in mouse models of muscular dystrophy to determine if recurrent muscle ischemia causes or accelerates the dystrophic phenotype and if early intervention with anti-ischemic therapy constitutes a viable treatment option. The vulnerability of dystrophin-deficient skeletal muscle to ischemic stress will be comprehensively assessed, probing both a causal role for sympathetic vasoconstriction and an effector role for reactive oxygen species and redox sensitive transcription factors. Ample opportunity will be provided to use a broad range of research techniques including molecular, biochemical, cellular, organ, and whole animal integrative approaches. Current research areas in the Hypertension Division include neural control of the circulation in hypertension, heart failure, obesity, muscular dystrophy, and renal failure. A Ph.D. and/or M.D. and 1-2 years relevant experience in skeletal muscle biology or cardiovascular physiology is required. Experience in molecular biology, histology, or small animal surgery is highly desired. These NIH-funded positions are available immediately. Salary is competitive and will be based on prior experience.
Send a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, and the names of three references to:

| POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCHER
Postdoc to study the role of estrogen in the neural control of the peripheral circulation and blood pressure regulation. Will be responsible for developing and performing experiments in rat and transgenic mouse models to study both genomic and non-genomic effects of estrogen on sympathetic regulation of skeletal muscle blood flow and arterial blood pressure. Opportunity will be available to interact with other investigators in the group who are performing complementary experiments in humans. Ph.D. and/or M.D. required 1-2 years relevant experience in cardiovascular physiology or neurophysiology. Experience in small animal surgery is desired.

| POST-DOCTORAL RESEACHER
Applications are requested for a three year combined research/clinical fellowship in hypertension. Applicants must have ABIM certification or be ABIM eligible. Research opportunities in hypertension range from basic research using genetic mouse models (Zhang et al., PNAS, 2000) to mechanistic human physiology and epidemiology/public health (Sander et al., PNAS, 2000; Vongpatanasin et al., Circulation 1999). In-depth subspecialty training in all aspects of clinical hypertension will be provided (Kaplan., Circulation102:1079, 2000; Toto et al., Hypertension 31(2):684, 1998; Dunn CW. et al., Surgery 111(4):472-4,1992). Fellowship will fulfill eligibility requirements for the Qualifying Examination for Specialists in Clinical Hypertension by the National Board of Medical Examiners.

| POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCHER
Applications are requested for a three-year clinical research fellowship in hypertension pathophysiology. Applicants must be licensed to practice medicine in the U.S.A. Research experience is based in the General Clinical Research Center using microneurographic recordings of sympathetic nerve activity (J Clin Invest 99: 628, 1997; NEJM 327:1912, 1992), near infrared spectroscopy (J Clin Invest 98: 584, 1996), and other state- of-the- art techniques for studying the neural control of the human peripheral circulation. Fellows will be enrolled in a course in clinical investigation in the Donald W. Reynolds Clinical Cardiovascular Research Center and will learn to use a random population sample for hypothesis-driven disease-oriented research.
