Heart :: Patient Education Materials

About Our Program | About the Procedure | Heart Transplantation | Mechanical Circulatory Assistance | Our Physicians | Patient Education Materials | Support Groups and Resources

UT Southwestern Medical Center physicians and transplant nurses take complex medical information about heart transplants and describe it to patients in easy-to-understand terms. In addition, we also offer patients access to educational materials that will help them to learn more about heart conditions and why they are candidates for the treatment prescribed.

Prior to being listed for heart transplantation, patients are required to undergo training at the Formal Pre Heart and Lung Teaching Program, where patients and their families learn the fundamentals of heart transplant from a transplant nurse.

Patient education can make a significant difference in how patients approach their transplant. In addition to access to UT Southwestern’s health-care professionals, patients may consult other educational materials to better understand what to expect before, during and after treatment.
