UT Southwestern Medical Center provides compassionate, personalized rehabilitation treatments for patients with brain injuries. With their extensive experience in treating brain injuries, our specialists provide comprehensive care for all types of traumatic or acquired brain injuries.
UT Southwestern’s Brain Injury Rehabilitation Program is located in UT Southwestern University Hospital - Zale Lipshy, where care is delivered by a dedicated and highly trained team. Because the program is a hospital-based facility, patients have on-site access to neurological rehabilitation and all medical and surgical specialties — including radiology with X-ray, ultrasound, CT scans and MRIs. It is the mission of the program to help patients with traumatic brain injuries to achieve the highest level of physical, functional and cognitive independence and to be able to adjust to their social environment.
The medical center is home to the North Texas Brain Injury Model System, one of 16 centers throughout the U.S. awarded grants to conduct in-depth research on traumatic brain injuries. The major aims of the network are to reduce the rates of death, vegetative states and cognitive dysfunction after moderate to severe traumatic brain injury and to evaluate acute and rehabilitative interventions for efficacy, safety and cost-effectiveness. The North Texas Brain Injury Model System pools the efforts and talents of individuals from the departments of Neurological Surgery, Neurology, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Psychiatry (Neuropsychiatry), and Neuroradiology from the two leading medical institutions in the North Texas region.
Moreover, current research conducted at UT Southwestern’s rehabilitation unit is focused on predicting the outcome after a traumatic brain injury, including the risks for developing seizures.
Our brain injury rehabilitation specialists can help change a patient’s outlook on the future. UT Southwestern’s caring specialists offer comprehensive medical and rehabilitation resources to help patients achieve the highest possible level of functioning.
