Muscle and Joint Pain :: About Our Program

About Our Program | Conditions and Illnesses | Our Physicians | Patient Education Materials | Support Groups and Resources

The pain management program at UT Southwestern Medical Center offers expert, compassionate care for patients experiencing chronic muscle or joint pain, including chronic myofascial (muscle) pain, hip pain, musculoskeletal pain, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, spasticity pain and other conditions.

UT Southwestern is one of the few pain management centers in Texas with on-site pain specialists, behavioral medicine specialists and physical therapists. Our program uses therapies derived from the latest scientific advances in pain management and our specialists utilize the least-invasive procedures available to diagnose and treat patients’ chronic muscle or joint pain.

After a comprehensive evaluation, a UT Southwestern muscle and joint pain specialist thoroughly explains the patient’s diagnosis and treatment options. In addition, our specialists advise patients about the actions they can take to reduce pain, including lifestyle changes that can help improve their condition and maintain long-term health.

Depending on the patient’s specific condition, our specialists may prescribe muscle relaxants, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, anti-inflammatory cortisone injections, physical therapy, behavioral therapy, or other therapeutic treatments, including intrathecal pump therapy for pain associated with spasticity and advanced medications for rheumatoid arthritis.

UT Southwestern’s comprehensive medical resources enable patients to have an initial consultation, testing, follow-up visits and any needed medical procedures all in one location.
