UT Southwestern Medical Center offers expert, compassionate care for patients experiencing chest pain, including pain associated with esophageal spasm, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), musculoskeletal disorders, panic attacks or anxiety, rib fractures, shingles and trauma.
UT Southwestern is one of the few pain management centers in Texas with on-site pain specialists, behavioral medicine specialists and physical therapists. Our program uses therapies derived from the latest scientific advances in pain management and our specialists utilize the least-invasive procedures available to diagnose and treat chest pain.
Depending on the patient’s specific condition, our specialists may prescribe medications to control acid reflux for GERD, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for musculoskeletal disorders and anti-anxiety medications to help control panic attacks and stress.
Patients with rib fractures, shingles or trauma may be candidates for treatment using intercostal nerve blocks, which UT Southwestern specialists administer by injecting medication between the ribs in the area causing pain. Most patients experience immediate relief from pain but may require a series of the injections over a period of time to complete the entire treatment.
UT Southwestern’s comprehensive medical resources enable patients to have an initial consultation, testing, follow-up visits and any needed medical procedures all in one location.
