Stroke/Neurovascular Disorders :: Conditions and Illnesses

About Our Program | Conditions and Illnesses | Our Physicians | Patient Education Materials | Support Groups and Resources

Neurovascular disorders can impair functions of the brain or affect daily routines such as walking and ordinary language skills. Symptoms may be mild, moderate or severe and can occur intermittently. Sporadic recovery periods, or a slow and steady worsening of conditions, can mark deteriorating neurovascular functions.

UT Southwestern Medical Center’s doctors work with patients to develop a comprehensive approach to managing their strokes or other neurovascular conditions. Because recurrent strokes can happen, prevention is a significant aspect of the stroke recovery process. Our physicians are experts in stroke therapy and stroke rehabilitation.

UT Southwestern physicians have the expertise to accurately diagnose each type of neurovascular disorder based on the frequency and severity of symptoms. Our researchers are continually discovering new avenues for the diagnosis of neurovascular disorders. Numerous research studies show that a thorough analysis of a patient’s condition can also alleviate symptoms such as fatigue, pain, spastic, cognitive and other problems.

Diagnosis of neurovascular disorders must be the result of a thorough clinical assessment, and our researchers consistently make great strides in the development of assessment techniques for neurovascular disorders. The medical center’s research findings present important diagnostic breakthroughs that are available to UT Southwestern patients.

In addition to treating patients with ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, we also treat patients with the following conditions:

  • Aneurysm
  • Angioma
  • AVM
  • Hemifacial spasm
  • Hypertension
  • Moya-Moya disease
  • Strokes due to hypercoaguable states and genetic disorders
  • Trauma
  • Trigeminal neuralgia
  • Vasculitis
