UT Southwestern Medical Center’s ophthalmologists are trained to identify and treat cornea disease and external diseases. Our eye specialists perform thousands of outpatient surgeries each year, including cornea transplants and other procedures.
Ophthalmic surgeons use the latest diagnostic technologies and surgical procedures. Our talented surgeons have immediate access to a complete array of subspecialists, should the patient require a consultation.

Some of the cornea and external diseases treated at UT Southwestern include:
- Blepharitis, which is an inflammation of the eyelids;
- Contact lens problems and management of lens-related complications;
- Degenerations such as keratoconus and Salzmann’s nodules;
- Dry eyes and tear disorders;
- Dystrophies, including Fuchs’ dystrophy and granular dystrophy;
- Conjunctivitis, keratitis and other infectious eye diseases;
- Non-infectious keratitis and corneal allergies;
- Refractive surgery correction for nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism;
- Reconstructive surgeries for injuries to the cornea, surgery to remove foreign objects lodged in the surface of the eye, corneal grafts and corneal transplants; and
- Benign tumors and pseudotumors.
