Ocular Oncology :: About Our Program

About Our Program | Conditions and Illnesses | Our Physicians | Patient Education Materials | Support Groups and Resources

Ocular oncologists at UT Southwestern Medical Center treat eye tumors and tumors of the tissues surrounding the eye using the most advanced diagnostic and treatment methods, always carefully monitoring each patient’s progress.

The diagnostic resources available at UT Southwestern are among the most advanced in the nation. Tests may include ultrasound, eye “photographs” such as fluorescein angiography, fundus photography, CT scans, PET scans and MRIs, as well as pupillary and ocular motion evaluations. Early detection of eye tumors and ocular cancer can enhance the outcome of treatments.

UT Southwestern’s ocular oncologists use chemotherapy, cryotherapy, pinpointed beam radiation therapy (Accuray technology), radiation plaque therapy and enucleation, or surgical removal of the eye, to treat ocular cancer.

Our ocular oncologists team with other specialists, such as ocuplastic surgeons for reconstructive surgery, and oncologists, radiologists, neurosurgeons, ear, nose and throat surgeons and interventional neuroradiologists.

Patients in UT Southwestern’s clinical trials program receive therapies years before they become available to the public. Patients should ask their doctor if they are candidates for some of these groundbreaking therapies.
