UT Southwestern Medical Center provides expert and compassionate care for individuals with speech and language impairments, including aphasia, speech disorders related to articulation, fluency and voice, and language disorders related to the comprehension or the use of spoken or written language. Our Speech and Language Pathology Program provides therapy for patients who have hearing impairments, cognitive-communication disorders and swallowing problems.
The speech and language pathologists at UT Southwestern have extensive experience providing therapy for patients with wide-ranging backgrounds and conditions, including individuals with autism, brain injuries, hearing impairments, mental challenges, Parkinson’s disease, strokes and other conditions such as stuttering.
UT Southwestern’s speech and language pathologists work with patients one-on-one and give them the undivided attention they need to make progress in overcoming their difficulties. Our specialists teach patients valuable techniques and strategies to better engage in everyday conversations. Our speech and language pathologists also discuss with patients’ families how therapy works to improve the patient’s skills, as well as actions family members can take to help.
At UT Southwestern, our specialists are sensitive to the special needs of speech-impaired and language-impaired individuals. By working to develop a rapport with each patient, our specialists help establish an environment that contributes to the patient’s success and improves his or her outlook on the future.
