UT Southwestern Medical Center provides expert care and effective treatments for all types of allergies, including allergic rhinitis. Our ENT specialists also treat conditions such as chronic sinusitis, which may be related to having a deviated septum or other physical obstruction such as nasal polyps.
Our program helps patients reduce and even eliminate their troublesome symptoms such as coughing, headache, itching eyes, nose and throat, runny nose, sneezing, sore throat, teary eyes, and wheezing. After a comprehensive evaluation, our specialists discuss with patients the treatments available that will address their allergic reactions.
In addition to counseling patients about how they may be able to reduce their exposure to allergens through lifestyle changes, our specialists prescribe beneficial medications such as short-acting and long-acting antihistamines, nasal corticosteroids, decongestants, eye drops and other drugs.
To address the root of the problem, UT Southwestern physicians employ allergy immunotherapy treatments that reduce patients’ allergic reactions to irritating agents. Our specialists also provide “rush immunotherapy,” which involves administering more shots over a shorter period of time to expedite the treatment’s effects.
UT Southwestern’s Allergy Program offers comprehensive allergen skin testing, pulmonary-function testing, advanced anti-immunoglobulin (IgE) therapy and drug desensitization therapy for patients who are allergic to medications necessary for their health.
Exemplifying our dedication to advancing the science of allergy treatment and screening, UT Southwestern is one of only a handful of research institutions evaluating a promising new asthma therapy. The study is investigating how a new anti-IgE medication may be used to reduce the severity and frequency of asthma attacks in inner-city children, a population known to have a high prevalence of asthma.
Patients with allergies can also be treated by our allergy service.
