Emergency Care

UT Southwestern Medical Center offers full-service emergency care medicine at University Hospital - St. Paul. Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, our emergency department is staffed by physicians who are board certified and skilled in the treatment of all medical emergencies.

Our emergency care providers regularly consult with UT Southwestern’s world-renowned physicians in all of our medical specialties, giving the patient direct access to some of the brightest minds in medicine.

In addition, our emergency department at University Hospital – St. Paul:

  • Offers state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment and treatment facilities.
  • Is accredited by the Society of Chest Pain Centers, which found that we meet or exceed quality-of-care measures in acute cardiac medicine. Patients experiencing heart attacks are taken immediately to our newly equipped cardiac catheterization lab, where our physicians can open the blocked artery and restore blood flow to the heart, minimizing the damage from the attack.
  • Is one of five hospital emergency departments in the community recognized by Dallas Fire-Rescue’s Emergency Medical System (EMS) for the management of stroke patients
  • Is affiliated with Children’s Medical Center, so pediatric patients needing hospital admission can be quickly stabilized and transferred for specialized pediatric care.
  • Offers a FAST TRACK system to expedite care for patients arriving with colds, small lacerations, sprains and other minor emergencies. The FAST TRACK system operates daily from 9 a.m. to 1 a.m. and is staffed by nurse practitioners, physician assistants and registered nurses.

If a patient has a problem that is life threatening, call 911 immediately and direct the paramedics to University Hospital - St. Paul at 5909 Harry Hines Blvd. (at Inwood Road).
