UT Southwestern Medical Center physicians treat patients with all types of inflammatory bowel disease and diarrheal illness, including:
- Crohn’s disease
- Ulcerative colitis
- Proctitis
- Collagenous colitis
- Microscopic colitis
- Celiac sprue
- Irritable bowel syndrome
- Diverticulitis
Our gastroenterologists, gastrointestinal radiologists and other specialists collaborate to evaluate each patient’s condition and determine the most effective therapeutic options available.
UT Southwestern specialists have extensive experience in diagnosing inflammatory bowel and diarrheal diseases, which makes an important difference in the treatment plans for patients. Our specialists are experts at using diagnostic tests to differentiate between the very similar symptoms that accompany Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. In addition, our radiologists use state-of-the-art technology to provide the necessary images to accurately localize and diagnose disease.
Specialists also diagnose and treat irritable bowel syndrome, which is the most common gastrointestinal disorder in the nation. UT Southwestern helps patients control irritable bowel syndrome and reduce or eliminate its symptoms through a combination of medication, diet and stress management.
Our nutritionists also provide advice to treat celiac disease, which requires life-long adherence to a gluten-free diet.
UT Southwestern’s comprehensive medical resources enable patients to have an initial consultation, testing, follow-up visits and any needed medical procedures all in one location.
