Breast cancer, a disease in which malignant cancer cells form in the tissues of the breast, is the most common type of cancer among American women, and the second-leading cause of cancer death in American women. About 1 percent of breast cancer patients are males. The death rate from breast cancer is actually declining in the U.S. and other Western countries, due mainly to the success of screening programs as well as to improved treatment.
UT Southwestern Medical Center’s physicians and researchers have access to the latest scientific findings and treatments for breast cancers, including:
