Study Title: Neural Mechanisms of Thiazide Diuretics-Induced Insulin Resistance

Department(s) involved in the Study: Int Med - Cardiology, Internal Medicine
Purpose of the Study: To determine if currently approved medication treatment for high blood pressure have different effects on the nerve activity which controls blood pressure and blood sugar levels
Participant Eligibility: Men and women between 18-65 with high blood pressure between 140-149/90-99 mmHg.Study excludes subjects with heart diseases, diabetes mellitus, lung disease, cancer, and thyroid problems.
Disease/Condition Under Study: Hypertension, high blood pressure, insulin resistance
Cancer Related Study: No
Study Drug(s): chlorthalidone, clonidine hydrochloride, eplerenone, insulin, irbesartan, phenylephrine hydrochloride, quinapril, Sodium nitroprusside, spironolactone
