Ad Title: Genetic studies in Schizophrenia
Study Title: Neurophysiological and Genetic Studies in Schizophrenia and Other Psychiatric Disorders
Protocol Number: 052004-021
Department(s) involved in the Study: Psychiatry
Purpose of the Study: The purpose of this research is to learn more about schizophrenia. This research is necessary because it may help identify genes that increase the risk of developing schizophrenia or other mental illnesses.
Participant Eligibility: Inclusion Criteria for Affected Volunteers and Family Members, or Normal Control volunteers -DSM-IV diagnosis of schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder with psychotic features or obsessive compulsive disorder with psychotic features per RDC (research diagnostic criteria) -Must be judged clinically stable by study investigators. -Males & females. -Ages 15-57 years old. -All races and ethnicities. -Voluntary and competent to sign an informed consent. CRITERIA FOR EXCLUSION OF SUBJECTS: -Diagnosis of an organic brain disease. -Diagnosis of DSM-IV alcohol or substance abuse with the last month or DSM-IV alcohol or substance dependence within the last 3 months. -History of seizures, serious head injury, concussions, or other evidence of brain disease. -Unstable medical illness. -Must be able to read, speak, and understand English.
Disease/Condition Under Study: -People diagnosed with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder with psychotic features or obsessive compulsive disorder with psychotic features per RDC (research diagnostic criteria -family members of the above. -normal control volunteers.
