Clinical Trials :: Do you smoke and want to quit?

Ad Title: Do you smoke and want to quit?
Study Title: Stress Response and Smoking Cessation in Depressed Youth--Clone Created
Protocol Number: 0703-463
Department(s) involved in the Study: Pediatrics, Psychiatry
Purpose of the Study: The purpose of this research is to see if the drug bupropion, when combined with a standard psychological smoking cessation intervention, can help teenagers and young adults, with or without depression, to quit smoking more effectively than psychological intervention can alone.
Participant Eligibility: 1. Between 12 years and 25 years. 2. Depressed smokers, non-depressed smokers, and normal controls. 3. Subjects smoke at least 10 cigarettes per day for a period of 3 months or longer, weigh at least 90 lbs., be motivated to quit smoking, and should have had one or more failed attempts to quit. 4. If subjects wish to receive medication as part of the study, sexually active females must use a reliable birth control method. 5. All adolescents will be able to speak and read English. However, subjects whose parents do not read or speak English will be accepted into the study. In such cases, prior to signing the consent form, a bilingual person will interpret the entire study procedure, including the informed consent form, for them. A Spanish version of the general consent form is available for Spanish-speaking parents. Parents who are not fluent in English or Spanish will not be invited to participate in the study.
