Faculty and staff members who direct sponsored research projects under The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas auspices have an important public, as well as personal, responsibility to manage those projects carefully. The Research Administration Office assists investigators in fulfilling that responsibility of good stewardship. Our purpose is also to acquaint investigators and their administrators with the policies and procedures of UT Southwestern, to inform them of the various services available to them, and to serve as a resource for research-related information.

Notice of Revised NIH Public Access Policy

NIH issued a revised Public Access policy on January 11, 2008. The policy is in effect and requires submission of final, peer-reviewed manuscripts accepted for publication on/after April 7, 2008 resulting from NIH-funded research. Any article supported all or in part by an NIH grant must be submitted to PubMed Central (PMC) within 12 months of its publication date.

Effective May 25, 2008, anyone submitting an application, proposal, or progress report to the NIH must include the PMC or NIH Manuscript Submission reference number when citing applicable articles that arise from their NIH-funded research.

For your resource convenience, the staff at the U T Southwestern Library has compiled a very useful “NIH Public Access Policy Guide”. The Guide provides useful links and “How-To” information to help meet the requirements of the revised NIH policy. For more information regarding this Library service, contact Tracey Minzenmayer at 214/648-9173.
