OUR SCHOOL
In addition to physicians, there are a myriad of professionals who care for the sick, administer hospitals, and assist elderly or physically challenged individuals. Together these individuals work as a team to assist physicians and nurses in providing patients with superior health care. These are health professionals, and their jobs span many areas of health care, including: clinical nutritionists, orthotists, physical therapists, physician assistants, prosthetists, medical laboratory scientists and technologists and radiation therapists.
More than 300 students enroll in the University of Texas Southwestern School of Health Professions each year. Our primary function is the academic preparation of health professionals at various levels: baccalaureate, post-baccalaureate certificate, master's and doctorate. The Southwestern School of Health Professions (SSHP) actively recruits students from the Dallas-Ft. Worth area, frequently scheduling recruitment events with Dallas County Community College District (DCCCD), Collin County Community College District (CCCCD), the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA), the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) and Southern Methodist University (SMU). Our recruiters travel throughout the State of Texas, and to neighboring states, searching for the best candidates to attend our premiere medical institution. Clinical training facilities are teaching hospitals and affiliated institutions are readily available. The teaching orientation of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center makes clinical work a true learning experience.
