 RESEARCH OVERVIEW

The centralized theme of research in my lab involves the application and development of synthetic methodology to discover and construct novel targets that are of therapeutic interest. My lab currently serves as the Chemistry Core Facility for UTSW and we are intimately involved with the Biochemistry Department’s high-throughput screening (HTS) facility. In the role, we develop strong relationships with various faculty throughout the University to further develop their lead compounds identified from their biological screens of our 250,000+ library of compounds. We are currently involved in several programs ranging from small molecules that differentiate stem cells to novel therapeutics for oncology. In this regard, our activities can broadly be defined as pure medicinal chemistry, however, our underlying interests continue to entertain the discovery and mechanistic understanding of new reactions and techniques that allow for the rapid and practical generation of small synthetic libraries. Based on previous industrial experience at various large pharma corporations, the personnel in my lab bring years of knowledge to the table in support of drug discovery and process development that not only allows us to discover compounds of therapeutic interest, but also develop practical and efficient syntheses to these targets for future pre-clinical drug development work.
