The Hedgehog (Hh) and Wnt family of secreted proteins play critical roles in cell fate decision-making during embryogenesis and post-embryonic tissue homeostasis in metazoan animals. Misregulation of their pathway responses commonly results in malformations or cancer. Our research program incorporates functional genomics- and biochemically-based approaches to understand how signaling molecules such as Hh and Wnt are conveyed from producing to responding cells and then elicit signals that traverse the responding cell membrane to regulate intracellular effectors. More broadly, we hope to understand how information from multiple signaling molecules including Hh and Wnt integrate in developmental and disease-related contexts.
