The primary work in my lab involves the measurement of cardiovascular capacity during maximal exercise, measurement of muscle blood flow with venous occlusion plethysmography and determination of body composition by hydrostatic weighing. Current interventional studies include subjects with lipodystrophy, HIV, metabolic syndrome, atrial fibrillation and panic disorder. Controlled exercise training studies are being conducted with post-bariatric surgery patients, HIV-positive patients and subjects undergoing five weeks of bed rest to simulate zero gravity. Future work is planned on the use of exercise and omega-3 fatty acids on patients with osteoarthritis.
