 RESEARCH OVERVIEW

Dr. Frohman’s research is focused on the development of ophthalmological models from which to characterize the processes of neurodegeneration, neuroprotection, and neurorestoration in multiple sclerosis (MS). These studies utilize advanced retinal imaging techniques such as optical coherence tomography (OCT) and laser polarimetry (GDx) and non-conventional MRI techniques such as diffusion tensor and magnetization transfer imaging. Neuroprotection clinical trials aimed at demonstrating preservation of neurons and axons within the retina after acute optic neuritis in MS patients are currently underway.
