 PERSONAL OVERVIEW
     
Dr. Suter, a Professor of Emergency Medicine at UTSW is past president of both the American College of Emergency Physicians and the International Federation for Emergency Medicine. He graduated from Washington University in St. Louis, and received his DO and MHA degrees from Des Moines University in Des Moines, Iowa. Dr. Suter did his residency training in emergency medicine at Brooke Army-Wilford Hall USAF Medical Centers in San Antonio, Texas.

Dr. Suter has a long history of service to emergency medicine on a state, national, and international level. He was president of EMRA in 1991 - 1992, was elected to the Board of the Government Services Chapter, participated in numerous state and national committees, and served as ACEP liaison to several organizations. Immediately following residency, he was the physician co-chair of the federal project EMS Agenda for the Future. In 1998 Dr. Suter was given the Founders Award, EMRA’s highest recognition of service to emergency medicine and emergency medicine residents. He served as a member of the ACEP Council from 1991 through 1999 when he was elected to ACEP Board of Directors. He also served the College as a member of the Board and was the 2004-05 president. In 2006, he served as President of the International Federation for Emergency Medicine.

Dr. Suter has practiced emergency medicine in a variety of geographic and practice settings for over 15 years. In addition to being involved in academic medicine throughout his career, his practice experiences include being one of 60 partners in Greater Houston Emergency Physicians, a large democratic group, and as a Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve. He has a long-term commitment to clinical excellence, teaching, and research in emergency medicine
