Dr. Gomez is a medical graduate of Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana, Medellin, Colombia, where she did a year of Rotatory Internship and practiced as a family physician. In 1985, she became a Fulbright Scholar and subsequently obtained a Master’s Degree in Immunology (1987) and a PhD in immunology (1991) from University of Cincinnati. She did postdoctoral work at McMaster University and completed her Pathology residency at the University of Cincinnati, where she also trained in Gastrointestinal Pathology. Dr. Gomez completed a fellowship in Pediatric Pathology at Children’s Hospital Medical Center of Cincinnati. She is currently Board Certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, is a Diplomat of the American Board of Pathology, and is Board Eligible in Pediatric Pathology. Her main research interest are in the areas of mucosal immunity and cytokine responses to infections.
