The University of Texas Southwestern Epilepsy Center was founded in 1984 and I have been the director since 1995. We offer comprehensive, state of the art, evaluations for seizures and epilepsy in adults and children. Treatment options include epilepsy surgery, standard antiepileptic drugs and investigational drug studies for specific forms of epilepsy. Over 450 patients have had epilepsy surgery with a success rate is 90% (70% seizure free, 20% with at least a 90% reduction in seizures). Surgery should be a consideration if seizures are disabling and have not been controlled for over a year in spite of trying several appropriate medications.
