Dr. John McConnell is the Executive Vice President for Health System Affairs at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas reports directly to the President of UT Southwestern Medical Center. He also is the Chief Executive Officer and Vice Chairman of the Board, University Medical Center Incorporated; reporting to the UMC Board of Directors.
Dr. McConnell is responsible for the overall management of university outpatient clinics, Zale Lipshy and St. Paul Hospital University Hospitals, and the integrated health system.
He served as Chair of the Department of Urology at UT Southwestern from 1993-2001 and is an internationally recognized authority in prostate disease. He served on the Advisory Council of a major NIH institute (NIDDK), the Board of Directors of the American Urology Association. He directs the NIH-designated George W. O'Brien Urology Research Center at UT Southwestern. Dr. McConnell is the author of more than 100 publications in the field of basic and clinical prostate disease research.
Dr. McConnell earned his BS in 1975 from the University of Kansas and his medical degree in 1978 from Loyola-Stritch School of Medicine. He completed his surgical internship and residency at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas and his urology residency at UT Southwestern's affiliated hospitals.
