Wojciech Kedzierski received a Ph.D. degree from The Institute of Biochemistry, Academy of Agriculture, Poznan, Poland in 1970. There, he studied the role of transfer RNAs in protein biosynthesis. He continued his studies on nucleic acids in 1971-1972 as a visiting professor at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Buffalo, NY. After returning to Poland, as a faculty member at The Institute of Biochemstry, Poznan, Poland, he continued his studies on nucleic acids, receiving a Doctor of Science degree from Polish Academy of Sciences, Warsaw, Poland in 1981. In 1987 he left Poland and began studies on molecular pathogenic mechanisms of human genetic diseases. His initial research was focused on Parkinson’s disease and later on diabetes. However, since 1993 he has directed his research endeavors to using mouse genetic models to understanding molecular defects underlying different pathologies found in human retinal genetic diseases.
