Dr. Jones completed his physician assistant education in 1975 while on active duty with the U.S. Navy. His educational accomplishments include a bachelor of science degree from the University of Nebraska College of Medicine, a master of arts degree in health services management from Webster University, and a master of arts and doctor of philosophy degree in education with a major in evaluation and quantitative analysis from Claremont Graduate University. He joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 1993, following a faculty position at The University of Wisconsin-Madison. He currently serves as Professor and Chairman, Department of Physician Assistant Studies, and Program Director of the Dermatology post-graduate physician assistant training programs co-sponsored by UT Southwestern and the Dallas VA Hospital. His commitment to the advancement of the profession is evidenced by his contributions to the professional literature and his service as Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Physician Assistant Education, the official journal of the Physician Assistant Education Association. He is a past-president of the Association of Physician Assistant Programs and served on the National Academy of Sciences Institute of Medicine Committee on the Future of Primary Care. During his military career he served as Specialty Advisor to the U.S. Navy Surgeon General. He is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and a member of the Southwestern Academy of Teachers.
