Dr. Harford was born in the United States and attended high school in Monterrey, Mexico. He received a B.A. in psychology from Vanderbilt University, Nashville, in 1968. He worked at St. Luke’s Hospital Center for one year in New York City prior to entering medical school at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. He remained at UT Southwestern to complete his residency in internal medicine (1973-1976) and fellowship in gastroenterology (1976-1978). Dr. Harford spent the next 10 years in the private practice of gastroenterology in Dallas, then joined the faculty of UT Southwestern. Since 1988, he has been a full time faculty member and director of GI Endoscopy at the Dallas VA. He is married to Madeline Harford, M.D., a psychiatrist.
