 RESEARCH OVERVIEW

Congenital anomalies of the genitourinary tract are extremely common and unfortunately poorly understood. In Dr. Linda Baker’s NIH-funded laboratory, the molecular basis of these diseases are investigated using a combined approach of genetically engineered mouse models of congenital disease and translational research employing human samples from affected patients. Specific disease entities under investigation include hypospadias, imperforate anus, cryptorchidism, intersex states, specific human chromosomal disorders, and urinary stone disease. Through this research, we strive to improve the lives of children affected with these genitourinary birth defects.

 RESEARCH INTERESTS

Inherited or familial birth defects of the genitourinary tract
Causes of undescended testes and testicular torsion
Causes of hypospadias
Pediatric renal stone disease
Causes of intersex disorders
